The Rishiri Galaxy, a Panamian-flagged tanker, arrived at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port on the west coast of India. It carried industrial chemicals for Indian factories that produce various products. Another vessel operated by Maersk unloaded shipping containers, which were then transported by trucks to warehouses across India. India’s container traffic has tripled over the past two decades, reaching 6.4 million 20-foot boxes last year. India is now expanding its ports to catch up with other major ports and achieve its goal of becoming a manufacturing and export powerhouse.
